There is a RachelSeward living with Armenda and Samuel, who is 18 and also marriedwithin the year. Maybe this Rachel is James's wife, as he also liststhat he was married within the year. In the 1860 and 1870 censuses,James's wife's name is Rachel. I don't know why James and Rachel arelisted in different households. Listed right before Samuel and Elizabeth on this census is a Byrum (orByrand) Seward, who I believe is Samuel's brother. Byrum is 61 andborn in New Jersey. His wife is Elizabeth, age 40, and born in Ohio.They list the following children: Clinton, 16, farmer Minor, 11 Alfred Shotwell*, 5 Phebe, 2 *The way it is written in the census, it looks like Shotwell isAlfred's last name. Phebe's last name is Seward.
