Notes
a. Note:   ipt of Lecture Delivered by Sherrill Foster, By Choice or By Chance: Single Women's Lives in Nineteenth Century Suffolk County, N.Y. states the following:
"In 1820, he [Isaac Sylvester] married Charlotte Parsons, daughter of the nearby Parsons family. Their only child, Charlotte, born in 1831, was seven years old when her mother died..."
"Isaac Sylvester caught the gold fever in 1849 and invested $500 as a stockholder in the Sabina, a former whaling ship (with a total of 60 shares), going as a passenger to the west coast with many friends and a cousin..."
I inquired of Google about Sabina, a whaling ship, and, indeed, found the following:
From G. W. Blunt White Library
"Logbook: Sabina (Ship), 1849, Feb 8 - 1850, May 11. Journal kept by Henry Green, master, on board the ship SABINA of Greenport, New York, for a passage to the California gold fields. Contains list of members and officers of the Southhampton and California Mining and Trading Co., crew list, passenger list; (added March 15, 2004)
  "Log 754; Logbook, 1849, Feb 8 - 1850, May 11. - Sabina (Ship)
"San Francisco June 29th 1850 This statement shows the whole amount both in Merchandise and cash to which each share in the S.C.M. & Trading Co. is entitled

However, upon viewing the image of the actual manifest in the captain's own handwriting, I find that the transcriber misread the "I" in the name of J S Van Scoy. By comparing other "Is" and other "J's" in the copy of the original document, I could easily determine that the name should have been transcribed as I S Van Scoy.
Other names on the stockholder list with which I am familiar are: David Hand, Albert Rogers, Isaac Sayre, Henry Webb, James Parker, George H. Burnett, David H. Hand, Jonathan H. Field.
Note:   Records of the Town of East Hampton state that Isaac died at the age of 57. However, Transcr
