Note: le NB spent 8 or 9 years in veterans hospital due to back injuries-broke back during war when his ship was torpedoed never married, no children He apparently died in a hotel. His experiences with hospitals after the war led him to refuse to see a doctor once he was discharged in the 1950's, so even though he knew he was really ill, he would not go to the doctor and went to a meeting for work anyway. I have a postcard he bought in Bathurst near Newcastle to send to his sister Mrs Burnett, in which he says he arrived "safe but sick" and hoped to see a doctor Friday. He writes that he was going to see the mine site in March-apparently something to do with Acres real estate where he worked. The postcard was never sent and may have been written just days before his death.
