Daniel F Johnson : Volume 24 Number 1540 Date : July 9, 1866 County : Saint John Place : Saint John Newspaper : Morning News Victoria, Vancouver Island, B.C. papers report an accident on Columbia River which resulted in the drowning of 16 persons, some of whom hailed from New Brunswick. It appears that the party, under Daniel F. ADAMS ( a wealthy miner and native of New Brunswick) was proceeding on the Columbia River in a boat en route to the mines. While on their way, being heavily laden, the boat sheered into some rapids, became unmanageable and was overturned, precipitating all on board, some 23, into the water.
