Note: Final Rites Held For Aged Resident. Funeral services were held in the Bowles Funeral Home last Tuesday afternoon at 2 PM. for Mrs Martha Lucas, a resident of this area since 1918. Mrs Lucas passed away at the Methodist State Hospital in Mitchell South Dakota, Saturday after noon, October 15th 1949. Burial of the deceased, who was 92 years old at the time of her death, was made in the Kimball Cemetery. She had been seriously ill for the greater part of the summer and had been hospitalized Since the fore part of July. Martha Hill , daughter of Stephan B. and Sarah Hill, was born August 17, 1857, at Waterloo Quebec, Canada. One of nine children in the family. All have preceded her in death. She came to the United States when 20 years old, living first at Concord, N. H., later moving to Wisconsin, where she married Thomas Wright of Castle Rock. One son born to this union passed away in Rapid City this spring. Later she married Philander Andersen Lucas of La Porte City, Iowa. Who preceded her in death August 28, 1902. Only one daughter, Mrs. Florence Freeland of Kimball, was born to this union. And whom Mrs. Lucas has always made her home. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. the Rev. F. Wilbur Drown, former pastor of the Kimball Nazarene church and now of Redfield, conducted funeral services. He was assisted by Mrs. Drown and their daughter, Phyllis, who sang "Beautiful Isle of Some-where" and "Home of the Soul." Pall bears were Ray and R.G. Freeland, Charles Sebesta, Royal Holter, Ralph Geppert and Joe Sailer. As reported in obituary.
