Notes
a. Note:   Philander Adams Lucas born 1834 died 8-28-1902
Philander Adams Lucas, born 1834 Bainbridge Township, Putnam County, Indiana.
(Note: Prenomin pronounced FiAndrew) was the 9th born of 10 children to Josuha Holland and Elizabeth (Adams) Lucas. Their 1st 5 children having been born in Rocky Creek, Paint TWP., highland County, Ohio.
The Lucas family with some of the then married children also moved in 1840 to Weston Twp., Platte Co., Missouri. Philander and his younger brother Alfred lived with an older brother George and his wife Sallie in Andrews Co., Missouri until George left Missouri to lead a wagon train to Montana and later to California in 1861.
Philander then returned to Platte co., Missouri where on 7-1-1867 at Platte City he was appointed Judge of 5th Circuit Court to fill a vacancy of a suspended/retired distant, senile relative, Judge Lucas. The former Judge then quite elderly, formerly from Virginia had been preceded in death by his five sons, all having died rather tragic deaths. The 5th in fact having been shot in a duel with a Colonel Benton.
Philander was probably 1st married to a woman known only as Laura They ultimately had probably at least four children, William, Orlando, Catherine & Lydia. Philander then ran for this Judgeship, which he won on October 1868 against a John Wilson. He began this new term January 1st 1869. However on May 22nd 1872 impeachment proceedings were filed against him and subsequently dismissed by Superior Court 35 days later. Philander ran again, and was re-elected for a six year term, commencing January 1st 1875. He then left the Judgeship at the end of 1881.
Philander and family then moved the family a short distance to Des Moines, Iowa where a considerable number of his Lucas relatives were then living. Most of whom were working for the printing plants that abounded in that city. One of these was the Wallace printing Company run by the Wallace Brothers, Henry & John. Later was to be the father of Henry A Wallace Vice President under Franklin Roosevelt. Philanders daughter Lydia was a printer for this company in 1892.
Also most of the family on Stephen Hill worked as printers in this company.
Of Philanders sons Orlando & William worked for the Des Moines Street Car Company & the State Interurban Railway System. The son of Philanders oldest brother Colonel Ebenezeer was local agent for the Wabash Railroad.
Sometime prior to 1891 Philander was divorced from his first wife and then married Martha Sophia (Hill) Wright and moved to La Porte city, Blackhawk County, Iowa (Probably in the employment of the Iowa State Interurban Railway System.) His Uncle John Wallace was State Secretary of Agriculture for Dairies in Iowa.
Florence E Lucas born July 20th 1898 in LaPorte City, Blackhawk County, Iowa, daughter of Philander & Martha (Hill) (Wright) Lucas. Philander died at LaPorte city August 28th 1902, but was probably buried in the Largely Lucas Cemetery at the Crossroads known as Rose Hill, Mahaska county, just N. E. of Lucas County Iowa.
Martha Sophia Hill born August 17th 1857 at Waterloo, Sheffield County, Quebec Provenance, Canada. First married to Thomas Charles Wright, born in Michigan, the son of Charles K & Mary Wright. Marriage took place September 8th 1889 at Blue River, Water Town Township, Wisconsin.
And obviously divorced in fairly record time thereafter. Thomas Wright remarried and had a large family and became a very prosperous farmer.
Martha (Hill) Wright son Almon born July 1890 (named after ?) probably his uncle (note his great grand father was Philander Wright formerly of Belcher, Hamden County, Mass. Almon was raised by his uncle Stephen Arad Hill & his wife Rose (Chapman) Hill who in turn was the half sister to Mellissa Emeline (Chapman) Glasier mother of Marion Harold Glasier, first husband of Florence Edith Lucas.
Florence Edith (Lucas) Glasier married 2nd Charles M Freeland.
