  David Phillips was born in Wells co., IN, June 19, 1840 and died March 17, 1920. If he lived until next June he would have reached the ripe old age of 80 years.
  At the age of seven his parents moved to Buchanan co., IA and six years later to Harrison co., where he lived until 1861 when he returned to Buchanan co. and met Miss Sarah Fish to whom he was married April 12, 1861, and moved to Woodbury co., IA where they lived until the year 1881, when they came to Madison co., NE where they have resided ever since, over 39 years.
  To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girs, all of whom died in infancy, except two girls, and one boy, Mrs. George Beed and Mrs Malicia Ober, both of Meadow Grove, and George Phillips of Elgin. There are 18 grand children, and 124 great grand children. He also has one brother living in Woodbury co., IA.
  For nine months and 21 days he had been confined to his bed. The children were all present at the time of his death. The deceased was a veteran of the Civil War being a volunteer in Co. B, 15th Iowa Infantry, and served his country faithfully for nine months.
  His children wish to say as a last tribute that he was alsways a kind and loving father.
  Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church last Friday, Rev. Antrim, the pastor, officiating. Interment in Hoyt's Cemetery east of town.
