  !Death: Scorbutis
  Robert Hooper, a Corporal of Captain George McRosee, Company G of the 12 Regiment of Michigan Infantry Volunteers, of the State of Michigan, born in England, age 24 years; 5 feet high; light complexion, black eyes, brown hair, and by occupation a farmer, who joined for service and was enrolled on the 29 day of Oct 1861, at Schoolcraft by Capt. Balch, for the period of 3 years, and mustered into the service of the United States on the 17 day of Jan, 1862 at Kalmazoo, by Lt Col Smich; and having served HONESTLY and FAITHFULLY with his company til taken priosoner is now entitled to a DISCHARGE by reason of Death at Danville,VA of Scorbutis on 2nd day of March 1864.
  Robert was last paid by Paymaster Maf Sandford, to include the 30 day of Jun 1863, and has pay due him from that time to the present date; he is entitled to pay and subsistence for TRAVELING to place of enrollment, and whateer other allowances are authorized to volunteer soldiers, drafted men, or militia, so discharged. He has received from the United States CLOTHING amounting to $32.00, since the 29 day of Oct 1861, when his clothing account was last settled. He has received from the United States $00.00 advanced BOUNTY.

  Memorandum from Prisoner of War Records:
  Robert Hooper was captured at Chickamaunga, Ga 19 Sep 1863 and confined at Richmond, Va 29 Sep 1863 until he was sent to Danville, Va 12 Dec 1863. He was confined in the hospital a short time 2 Jan 1864 for Small Pox. He continued his confinement at Danville until his death. There is some discrepancie about the cause of his death which could also be Variola Empipila.
  He had been a field hospital cook during the action at Chickamaunga, the field hospital was captured and Robert was taken prisoner.
