Thompsons Company F of the 19th Regiment of Infantry Volunteers of the State of Michigan, age 26 years; 5 feet 1 inches high; Bronze complexion, Black eyes, Black hair, and occupation a farmer, having joined the company on its original organization at Kalamazoo, MI, and enrolled in it at the muster into the service of the United States at Dowagiac, MI on the 5 Sep 1862 for a term of 3 years, and having served HONESTLY and FAITHFULLY with his Company in OH, KY, TN, VA and GA to the present date, is now entitled to a DISCHARGE by reason of DEATH. Being killed in action at Resaca, GA 15 Mar 1864. The said William Hooper was last paid by Paymaster Johston to include the 31 Oct 1863, and has pay due him from that time to the present date; he is entitled to pay and subsistence for TRAVELING to place of enrollment and whatever other allowances are authorized to volunteer soldiers, or militia, so discharged. He has received $11.45 dollars advanced by the United States on account of CLOTHING, since date of last settlement 31 Oct 1863. SIGNED 27 Aug 1864 Charles G. Pursed 2nd Lt. Memorandum From Prisoner of War Records: William was captured at Thompson Station Terminal, Va 5 Mar 1863. He was confined at Richmond, Va on 22 Mar 1863. He was Paroled at City Point, Va on 31 Mar 1863. He reported to Camp Parole, Md 1 Apr 1863. On 31 Oct 1863 the muster report show that William was paid $22.00 and owed $75.00 for bounty. From the SOURCE (Civil War Dictionary) a bounty was paid to volunteer soldiers to join the North's Army. At the time that William joined that was up to $100.00 for three years. If William had waited until March the following year that same enlistment would be $300.00 of Bounty.
