Note: [Hoopers Main -A.GED] Funeral Held Funeral services for Mrs. Melissa Ober, 91, a long-time widely-known resident of the Meadw Grove area, who died Sunday, was held Wednesday afternoon at the Meadow Grove Methodist Church. The Rev. Hugh Houchin officiated. Hymns were sung by Miss Nancy Falconer, accompanied by Mrs. LoRene Falconer. Burial was in Deer Creek Cemetery. Mary Melissa Ober was born April 20, 1864, in Woodbury co., IA, and died December 18 at Meadow Grove at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 28 days. She was married to William J. Ober August 31, 1879, and 10 children were born to them. They came to NE in 1883. The Obers spent two years in Knox co. and the remainder of Mrs. Ober's life was spent in the Meadow Grove vicinity. She had lived in Meadow Grove 42 years. Mr. Ober died in 1913 and five of her children also preceded her in death, one in infancy. Mrs. Ober, who had 104 living descendants at the time of her death, is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edith Ballentine of Meadow Grove and Mrs. Maude Carpenter of Vallejo, CA; three sons, Glen of Meadow Grove and Otto and Theodore of Norfolk; 24 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Melissa Ober of Meadow Grove were held at the Methodist Chruch there Wednesday afternoon, December 21st. Mrs. Ober, who observed her 91st birthday last April, was the mother of the late Jesse Ober of Stark Valley. Coming to NE at an early age this pioneer lady resided in the Meadow Grove community more than seventy years. Moving to town after the death of her husband in 1913. She is survived by 24 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren. Four of her great great grandsons served as pall bearers. Relatives from here who attended the last rites were the Virgil Clayton and Kenneth Ober Families and Mr. and Mrs. Covell Musick, LaVon and Ronald Stark Valley friends extend sympathy TAKEN BY DEATH Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Malissa Ober, one of the oldest residents of this area. Mary Malissa Ober was born in Woodbury, co., IA on April 20, 1864, and was called to her heavenly home on December 18, 1955, at the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 28 days. After spending her childhood in IA, she came to NE in 1883. On August 31, 1879, she joined in holy wedlock to William J. Ober. This union was blessed with 10 children, one of which died in infancy. Since coming to NE, she has spent all of her life in the Meadow Grove for 42 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1913 and also by 3 sons and one daughter. Surviving to mourn her passing are 3 sons; Otto and Ted Ober of Norfolk, and Glen Ober of Meadow Grove, 2 daughters, Mrs. Maude Carpenter of Vallejo, CA, and Mrs. Edith Balentine of Meadow Grove; 24 grandchildren 66 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren. At the time of her passing, Mrs. Ober had more than 104 living direct relatives. She will be sorely missed by her many relatives and friends. GIVEN PARTY ON 76th BIRTHDAY -------------------------- Meadow Grove, NE April 23, Special to the News: Mrs. Malissa Ober, who observed her seventy-sixth birthday anniversary Sunday at her home in Meadow Grove, has been a resident of NE sixty years, coming here with her parents in a covered wagon in 1881 from Otto, IA. Two years later, as Mary Malissa Phillips she was married to William J. Ober. She is the mother of nine living sons and daughters. In honor of her birthday her sons and daughters and their families took basket dinners and gifts, spending the day at the Ober home. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ober, Mr. and Mrs Dave Ober, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Anders, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Stein, and their families, all of Bloomfield; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Ober and family and Doris Stork of Creighton; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ober, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dean, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Elliot, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carpenter and family, Norfolk; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schinck, Mrs Ed Huston and daughter, Glenn Ober and Elmer Ober, Mr. and Mrs. George Beed and Mrs. Gene Lewis, Meadow Grove.
