a. Note:   N4378 In an email August 07, 2007 Mike Morissey states:
  "I believe Maria {Updike, b. September 5, 1835} is living with her uncle, Samuel Montgomery Updike, in the 1850 census of Princeton, Mercer, NJ, pg 26 b. I think there is a good chance that Samuel's wife, "Matilda" (or Ellen/Hellen A., as she appears in the census) Stockton, was related to Maria's future husband, Edward Stockton".

The license would list a bondsman, often a relative, and indicate if Rice was a Justice of the Peace or a clergyman. If a clergyman, we might be able to tell which church they attended. Edward's brother, Ebenezer and his family may have attended the same church and have records of his family.
