Note: There was an old family story passed down from my line of Thorns . It isas follows: One of my Great Grandfather Thorn's was a young boy about 5-7 years old. He and a sister were down by a river when Indians came up in canoes and kidnapped them. They do not know what happened to their family. They were raised by the Indians. I started this genealogy search to try and find the real answer about my G Grandfather and disprove this old family story passed down. So far, I have not found any evidence of any of this THORN family being kidnapped by the indians. 1794 WILLIAM THORN appears on the Tithable Roll 2 white males 16+,2 horses. (William is head of household and over 21 . Second tithable could be his brother Augustine) Oct 5 1795. JOHN THORN of Prince William County ,to my loving son WILLIAM THORN, 100 acres on Lick Branch,a branch of Occoquan, being a part of a certain tract taken up by my deceased father,WILLIAM THORN. (Prince William County Deed Book Y, p. 601) Oct 5 1795. JOHN THORN of Prince William County ,to my son AUGUSTINE THORN, 100 acres on west side of Lick Branch of Occoquan, part of a tract taken up by my deceased father, Wm. THORN {Deed Book Y, p. 602} Jan 7 1805. An early deeds index (1827) shows that Jno. THORN Senr. gave Jno. THORN Jr. property recorded in Deed Book 2, p. 443. Unfortunately that page has been removed from the book (a plat of the town of Occoquan was on the reverse). The surrounding deeds were recorded on 7 Jan. 1805, so we can be confident that is the same date of recording for this deed. It is apparently the 105 acres that John THORN Junior owned from that time. Since John Sr. had no brothers or nephews named THORN (see 1806 deed below), John Jr. would undoubtedly to be his son. 1795 Tax List THORN William, 1 white male 16+, 1 horse 1796 Tax List THORN William, 1 white male 16+, 2 horses 1797 Tax List THORN William 1 white male 16+, 2 horses 1798 Tax List THORN William 1 white male 16+, 2 horses .18c 1800 Tax List THORN William 1 white male 16+, 2 horses 1806 Land Tax List , Prince WIlliam County THORN William 100 acres .46 ac, $46. value, .22 tax 1807 Land Tax List THORN William 100 acres 1810 Land Tax List THORN William of J Thorn - 100 acres 1810 Personal Property List THORN WIlliam 1 white male 3 horses, .36 tax 1810 Dumfries,Prince William Co Va Census William Thorn 2 males under 10 - which would be William b abt 1802 and John G b Jul 1807 . 1 male 26-45 William the father 2 females under 10 - at this time we have no names but could have died or married before marriage records were kept in Jackson Co Ohio and we never connected them to the family - 1 female age 26-45 mother . THORNE in 1816" Distance and location may be garbled. This is probably the sale of his land as he moved west to Ohio where he was obtaining land grants in Jackson Co in 1817. 1817 Tax Lists Prince William County Va No THORNS listed after this date. Deeds of Record where William had homesteaded land in Jackson,Milton ,Ohio in abt 1817 along with Hezekiah Frazee. 83 Acres was assigned in 1823 by President James Monroe and 89 acres was asigned by President John Quincy Adams in 1827. Both land grants were started out as "Know ye that Hezekiah Frazee asignee of William Thorn". In 1828 Hezekiah Frazee's heirs sold the land to WIlliam Thorn for $200. In 1836 William sold John Thorn a portion of the land for $200.Then in 1839 William sold the other portion of land to Robert Thorn for $1000. So we know that William appeared in person as late as 1839 on the land transaction. This confirms that William was indeed John and Roberts father and was living in 1839. These deeds are recorded in the Jackson Co Ohio Courthouse.
