Notes
a. Note:   Augustine Sanford inherited land under the will of his father Robert in 1738. He married Henrietta Randall daughter of Thomas Randall of King George Co Va whose will was dated Sept 4 1758 and proved May 3 1759 named a wife Jean and others and included a bequest to his daughter, Henrietta Sanford . Augustine Sanford served as both a witness and an executor of Randall's estate. Augustine apparently taught school ans was sometimes employed to write for other people, even in their family Bibles, as evidenced by Youell Sanford whose 1792/1793 depositionmentioned this when he identified Augustine's handwriting. Obviously a trusted membe of the community, his name appears in the Westmoreland records. In 1746, for example, James and Elizabeth Whitfield deeded property to him in Washington Parish "for the special trust and confidence they have in Augustine Sanford" to be held in a trust for James Whitfield and his heirs,"or for want of same Jacob Lovell, son of Robert Lovell." Augsutine drew his will on May 30 1785 and it was proved on Oct 25 1785. To wife Henrietta he left his whole estate for her life or widowhood. He left the plantation where he was living to his son Robert as well as the tract he ahd purchased "of Uncle John Sanford's estate" Sons Richard and Thomas Randall Sanford were to recieve a 200 acre plantation called Drosses, with Richard receiving the part next to Jospeh Moxleyand Thomas Randall that next to Thomas Shadricks. Son Augustine received negro woman Lidia and various items. Daughter Mary Thorne and daughter Elizabeth Gilbert wer also mentioned. Wife Henrietta and his three sons, Richard,Robert and Thomas Randall, were to serve as executors and the witnesses were James Bland, Jacob Reamy,Hannah Reamy and Mary Marmaduke. Will: "SANFORD, AUGUSTINE, 30 May 1785 [date of will]; 25 Oct. 1785 [date of probate]. Wife Henrietta estate for lilfe; son Robert land from estate of my uncle John Sanford; sons Richard and Thomas Randall Sanford land; son Augustine 1 negro, horse and L25; dau. Mary Thorn 6 pewter plates and 1 gilt trunk; dau. Elizabeth Gilbert otherwise Rust 6 pewter plates and a leather trunk."
Later in 1796 ,according to Southern Sojourners of the Sanford family, Mary Sanford Thorn is living in Prince William Co Virginia. This was noted in her mother Henrietta Randall Sanford's will.
