Note: 1820 Rowan Co Census for Eli Moore indexed as Ely Mare as follows 2 males 10 and under Nathaniel born 1811 William born 1813 1 male 10-16 ? some researchers have him as David Moore 1 male 16-18 Nathan Moore born 1804 1 male 26-45 Eli Moore-father 1 female 10 and under Jincy born abt 1819 1 female 10-16 Susanna born 1806 1 female 26-45 Jane Moore mother Eli and Janes children born after 1820 census Joseph Moore abt 1824 John Moore abt 1826 Didama Moore abt 1830 1840 Davidson Co Census Eli Moore Family 1 Male 10-15 John Moore b 1826 1 Male 15-20 Joseph Moore 1824 1 Male 50-60 Eli Moore 1779 1 Female 5-10 Nancy Moore 1835 -Granddaughter (presumed) Mentioned in Eli's will 1-Female 10-15 Didama Moore b abt 1829 1 Female 20-30 Jincy b abt 1819 1 Female 50-60 Jane -wife b abt 1783. The female age 5-10 I believe to be Nancy E Moore my great grandmother who was living with her grandparents . This is how I see the Eli Moore family according to census info and ages of children. I have added the names to show proof that Nathaniel was the right age of a son on the 1820 census under 10. There are no other records of a Moore the age of Nathaniel in Rowan/Davidson Counties that match this age and mentioned in any records. Nathaniel is shown in the same district of the tax records of Eli and Nathan Moore from 1832 (when he turned 21) until 1840 . Then he disappears until 1851 when he shows up with the 57 acres he and John Moore of Appanoose Co sells to Alfred Hayworth. If Nathaniel was not a son how would he be so involved in Elis affairs and land transactions? Nathaniel was shown in 1835 as paying taxes on 60 acres only the one year. Evidently he had bought it and sold it the same year or it was deeded to him from Eli and then given back. Nathan Elis other son was deeded his 53 acres from Eli in 1842 and sold it the same day and moved to Missouri only to return in 1847. The researcher is not sure and I will have to pay more to see if she can find a deed for this 60 acres in Rowan Co . There are too many connections to prove Nathaniels and Johns relationship to Elis family . I am including him and John as Eli Moores sons in my genealogy. John Moore doesnt appear on the tax list until 1848 (turned 21 years of age) and the year after his father had died and left him 50 acres. This may be the 57 acres that he and Nathaniel sold in 1851 just havent had time to compare the land description yet. Let me emphasize again timelines Nathaniel and John had moved to Appanoose Co between 1846 (year that Amanda Moore Nathaniels daughter was born and listed as being born in N C) and 1848 the year Nathaniel married Elender Elam-Blaylock in Appanoose Co. John mentions working for a brother in a distillery in North Carolina before moving to Iowa. Nathan was a blacksmith and William and Joseph were listed as farmers in 1850. This was likely to have been Nathaniel that he worked for and when Nathaniel closed the distillery and or moved to Iowa John was close to him and moved with him. Nathaniel and John married sisters Mary and Elender Elam. Nancy E Moore b 1835 daughter of Nathaniel Moore and Mary Charles was not with Nathaniel in the 1850 Iowa census. She evidently had remained in North Carolina and lived with relatives (grandparents) there. I actually cant find her in the 1850 census. Eli had died in 1847 and in his will mentions granddaughter Nancy Moore whom he had great affection for. The only other granddaughter named Nancy Moore was daughter of Joseph born about the time the will was made. He hardly had time to have great affection for her if she was even born before he died. And why did he choose one grandchild to mention in his will? Probably one that had lived with him and taken care of him during his dying years and also his wife Janes last years. Nancy was 13 when he died. Nathaniel Moore returns to Davidson Co North Carolina in 1851 to conduct the sale of land owned by he and John and Mary Moore. He stays for awhile and returns to Appanoose Co Iowa in 1852 bringing with him his daughter Nancy E Moore who married in 1853 Isaac W Thorn in Nathaniel Moores home in Appanoose Co Iowa , and also traveling with him was brother Joseph and Josephs two daughters Nancy b abt 1846-47 and Sarah born abt 1850. Josephs wife had died. There also were other relatives such as the McCanns, Hayworths etc that may have traveled to Iowa in 1852. Any additions to this info or corrections are appreciated. Thanks Elmer Thorn
