a. Note:   Nathaniel Moore�s Will 1798 I Nathaniel Moore of Rowan County and State of North Carolina being very sick and weak in body but through the mercies of God I at this time will retain my right senses and knowledge of a true direction of my state but calling to remember the mortality of my body and being sensible of the decays of nature and certainty of death I make this my Last Will and Testament in the manner following. My oldest son Nathan Moore in the first place I will and bequeath one hundred acres of land with the improvement on which he now lives which I purchased of Charles Bruce It being part of my due on a bond which I have in partnership with Wm Davis & Barnabas Idol which we have against him and when my executor shall settle with Charles Bruce then the remainder of the above bond shall be his and likewise I do hereby will and bequeath and convey to the above Nathan Moore my oldest son a certain power of attorney which I received and purchased from Wm Raper against Thomas Leddenton and to my youngest son Eli Moore I give and behove my homestead plantation on which I now reside which I purchased of Wm Raper now deceased with all my farming utensils and carpenters tools and a bay mare four years old and two cows and to my oldest daughter now living Didamia I give and behove one brown horse two years old and one cow and three sheep and further to Mary Ann my grand daughter of the above Didamia Credlepough I will and bequeath one ewe sheep and further I will and behove to my youngest daughter now living Sebru wife of Wm Credlepough one black mare four years old and one cow and to my dearly beloved wife copartners with me for all my distresses and the only bosom friend alloted me Susanna Jennings my lawful espoused wife I will and bequeath one brown mare seven years old, two cows and all the household furniture with the weavers loom and further this my wife Susanna Moore I order and request that she shall have a sufficient support for a good maintenance of my homestead plantation during her widowhood and further by virtue of this my Last Will and Testament I request and desire of Eli Moore my youngest son to be diligent for care of his aged mother that she shall lack nothing for a support during her widowhood under the penalty of braking this my will and testament and by virtue of this my last will and testament I do hereby ordain and appoint my oldest son Nathan Moore and Thomas Credepough my son-in-law executors of this my last will and testament and they are hereby directed authorized and empowered to settle with my creditors and collect debts due to my estate and sell the oxen to the best advantage and they are hereby required to put the field next to James Pains in good fence and repair the dwelling house and then pay my daughter Didamia ten dollars and each of my grand children one dollar and the remainder if any to be paid to my widow and youngest son Eli Moore after defraying my funeral charges which I require may be decently done. In witness where of I have let my hand seal 19th day of September in the good year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight Signed Sealed In presence of Isaac Odell, Luke Thomas, Susannah Hiett
