  He went to the USA midsummer 1849 to seek his fortune. On 28th July 1849 he landed at New York City. He then went to Illinois. He had government land and built a house and stocked the farm. He purchased another adjoining 80 acres. He then decided to return to England to collect his family.
  Emma was frightened to go so he stayed in England. He got an agent to sell his claim. He then bought land in England and had a market garden and a stall, they prospered and bought more land.
  He was a very pious man and a Methodist Minister who travelled back and forth on donkey to preach at various chapels. Later on he decided to become a Quaker and he changed to their faith until his death. He was very philanthropic and would give everything away.
  Most of his children did not survive with the exception of Eliza the endest and Emma the youngest...and two others.
