Note: [YOULE 2015.FTW] [~1.GED] [YOULE 2004.FTW] August 19th 1903. Adeline sends a postcard to her uncle in Australia. Daydream Cottage, Rockaway Park, LI. Dear Uncle As I cannot in person wish you a pleasant birthday, I am sending you my picture with best wishes. It is very nice here and my health is better. Hope to soon be entirely well. I go back to business on Monday. We will return home at the end of September. Love to all. Adeline C Talbot Jottings from Adeline's Postcards. Adeline and John Sheridan appeared to have had no children as they are not mentioned. She is still signing herself as Adeline C Talbot as late as Nov 1907 which may help narrow down her marriage date. She signs herself as Adeline C.T.S in September 1909 so obviously had married John J Sheridan by then. I have sent the cards which I think give a picture of Adeline's life and tell a little about the family. The other cards are generally birthday wishes etc. However I will continue to transcribe the cards as time permits. The last pc was sent on Aug 17th 1916 wishing my g-grandfather a happy birthday. Adeline and John had many vacations to places such as: Windham in the Catskill Mts NY 1915 Nova Scotia -Digby, Halifax, Grand Pre - in 1913. Stamford Conn in 1912 Flemington New Jersey 1910 Adeline (only)Patchogue Long Island April 1907 10/8/06 Thanks for your photo. I am going to have mine taken Saturday and will send one to Uncle. The ferns Uncle sends me I always put on Papa's picture. Glad to say we are all well. Love to all Adeline. For me, this card established Joseph had died though I didn't know how long before! NY April 7 1907 Rockaway Beach Six of us came down here last evening and are staying at Rebecca's summer cottage. We took a long walk on the beach this morning and the dear old Atlantic Ocean looked as beautiful as ever. April 19 1907 Rebecca, Lud, Minnie, Reba, my friend (maybe John?) and myself are going to the circus tonight in New York. May 29 1907 Madison Sq Garden NY This is where we saw the circus and Buffalo Bill. The doctor told us last week that my favorite aunt, my mother's oldest sister (the one who lived with us until my father married a second time) has a cancer. It is a great grief to me. I don't know how I can get along without her. Of course she may live a couple of years and maybe only a few months. She is 78 years old. My father's widow was operated on last winter for a cancer & is quite well again. I saw her a few weeks ago. We are having cold weather. Hope you are all well. Love to all Adeline. 28 Nov 1908 Richmond Va John and I are having a fine trip. This is considered the best statue there is of George Washington. It is in the capital here. The weather is fine. We go to Washington on Monday. Love to all Adeline. Honesdale PA (Postmarked Rutledgedale PA) Aug 4 1908 Dear Cousin Have visited this place during my vacation (P/c of Union RR Depot Main Street Honesdale PA) It is noted for its cut glass factories and coal mines. Have not heard from you for a long time. My brother in law is a little better but my aunt is failing fast. Love to all Adeline. Washington Dec 2 1908 We are having a fine time. We leave here Saturday and go to Philadelphia for a few days. A letter from home today says Minnie's husband is getting quite weak. Love to you all Adeline. August 30 1909 Cochecton Valley looking south. Cochecton N.P. (Postmarked Rutledgedale PA) Dear Cousin Minnie's husband died rather suddenly the day we got here and we had the sad duty of sending his body home. It is a blessing he has been taken but it is sad that he had to die so young. An autopsy showed he had a tumor on the right side of his brain. We are all very well and John and I stay here until Sept 11. Love to all Adeline. When and where was the funeral and did they attend or stay here ? Maybe autopsy done in Rutledgedale and I guess the date of 21 Aug might be accurate though of course not the year found in the Cypress Hills cemetery records. Sept 24 1911 Minnie took Reba to college last Monday (about 400 miles from here) and returned home this morning. She was favourably impressed with the college and surroundings and thinks Reba will be happy there. Of course we will miss her. I'll write her to send you a souvenir card of the college. Adeline Aug 27 1914 Monticello NY We are spending our vacation in the mountains of NY State. Is not the European War a terrible thing? I hope we will not get drawn into it. The country around here is beautiful and we are going for a long drive this afternoon. John joins me in love to you all. Adeline. A rather interesting card the significance of which quite escapes me, but Mary Ellen it might possibly mean something to you. It is dated Sept 28 1909 and postmarked Brooklyn. It depicts a naval parade and the words Hudson-Fulton Celebration 1909 with a sailor, mountie and dutch girl along with some boats. Adeline CTS has written 'The Clermont is the small boat with the wheel at the side and the Half Moon is just in front of it with the sails.' I'm wondering if a family member had been involved with either the paddle steamer or the sailing boat. The postmarking of Rutledgedale may mean that some relative lived there as Adeline doesn't indicate she is on vacation when there. Maybe Robert?? That is the only PA postmark. I was so excited to get your latest gem. What a find and we can see who is still left within the family. What an accomplished woman Reba was and certainly far ahead of her time. Regards Marea
