a. Note:   information sent to me by daniel strickland I did ignore your question about Siffords. I had never looked for them and wanted to do some checking before getung back to you. I checked the census indexes for NC and found the following: 1850census, George Sifford is in Watauga County 1840 census, George Sifford is in Rowan County, there are two other Sifford families in Rowan, probably relatives. 1830 census, There is only one Sifford family in NC. It is in Rowan County and headed bySussanah Sifford. This may be George's mother with his father deceased. 1820 census, There is only one Sifford family in North Carolina. That is in Rowan County. It is headed by John Sifford. This may be George's father. I did not check backfurther, but I have the indexes back to 1790. If you need this info let me know and I will dig it out.
