Note: "Nig" was everyones favorite "aunt". She got her nickname because of a skin pigmintation condition she was born with. When her father Sam was shipped off, "Nig' and Doris had to help raise Yvonne and Earl, while "Nan" worked. Doris hated to cook, so "Nig" cooked and Doris washed dishes. "Nig" could do just about anything. Change a tire, drive a truck, bake the best Chocolate and Lemon Meringue pies you ever tasted. I remember her sneaking a smoke from my cigarettes during family get togethers. I also remember her trying to help Earl after he divorced Lorene and before he met and married Dovie. Not sure who forked over the most money to Earl, "Nig" or me. Probably me, as "Nig" had to hide what she was doing from Frank, her husband. I did it to keep from listening to Doris and Nan crying on my shoulder that I was his namesake and owed it to them to bail him out at every turn. I think "Nig" got back most of what she doled out because Frank Emmons kept a close watch on their finances. Nig would cook a Chocolate and a Lemon Pie for Earl every time he was on leave and came to town. Nobody else was allowed a bite of either of those pies. Nan would make a ice cream freezer of Custard Vanilla (everybody under the sun had to turn the crank, but were not allowed one bite) for Earl on every leave.
