Billy D. Holder: Holder officer, shelter director Retired Rear Adm. Billy D. Holder, a former Navy aviator who served in three wars, spent his later years in service as director of the Children's Shelter.
  "His life revolved around his church, family and the Children's Shelter," said his wife, Sandra.
  Holder, 68, died Friday of a cerebral hemorrhage.
  "He just had a desire to serve as a Christian and as a citizen," his wife said of his service at the shelter.
  Holder served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The fighter pilot commanded an aircraft carrier stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. 33 years in Navy He retired in 1974 after 33 years' service in the Navy.
  Holder was born in Fort Worth and was attending North Texas State University when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He joined the Navy in January 1942 as an aviation cadet and was a dive-bomber pilot before later assuming command of an attack squadron, said Huby Jones, a retired Navy lieutenant commander.
  After retiring from the military, Holder served as a ruling elder of the First Presbyterian Church and was president and owner of Holder Financial Services Inc.
  Holder was also a member of the Alamo Council of the Navy League and a past director of United Services Automobile Association.
  Besides his wife, survivors include: four daughters, Rebecca Ingersoll and Karen Holder, both of San Antonio, Peggy Sellers, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Kristen Muehlfelt, of Wheaton, Ill.; a brother, Dr. Leonard Holder, of Gettysburg, Pa.; and two sisters, Peggy Jones, of Richardson, and Janette Sink, of Atlanta.
  Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Children's Shelter.
  Services will be at noon Monday in First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Louis Zbinden officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with arrangements by Porter Loring Mortuary
