a. Note:   Fred D. Nation Jr.: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) - November 4, 2007 Deceased Name: Fred D. Nation Jr. CHERRY HILL, Ark. - Fred D. "Derf" Nation Jr., 70, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at his home in Cherry Hill, Ark.
  Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Ash Creek Baptist Church, 301 S. Stewart St., Azle.
  Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's name to Mena Regional Hospice, 601 Highway 71 N., Suite BB, Mena, Ark. 71953.
  Fred was born in Fort Worth on Jan. 15, 1937. He graduated from North Texas State University in Denton. After serving as a clerk in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the U.S. Army, Fred obtained his law degree from the University of Texas Law School.
  He became a partner in the Fort Worth law firm of Garrett & Nation and also served as Azle's city attorney. In 1973, Fred joined the staff of Matthew Bender & Co. in San Francisco, Calif., as the editorial director in charge of Texas lawbook publications. He retired from Matthew Bender in 1995 as director of publishing.
  An avid member of the Sports Car Club of America, Fred enjoyed many years of rally competition. He loved telling stories and tall tales, some of them many times over. Fred lived a good life, full of love and laughter, and will be missed by all who knew him.
  Fred was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Edith Melbagene "Gene" Nation; and wife, Jackie Reid Nation.
  Survivors: His wife, Sondra; brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Sari Nation of Wimberley; Rick's children, Spring Speasl, Jessica Nation and Noah Nation; mother-in-law, Evelyn Williams and her husband, Carnie Williams of Mena, Ark.; stepchildren, Patricia Palacios of Houston, Robin Rice of Ashland, Ore., Olivia Rice Alexander and husband, Lee of Houston and Andrew Rice and wife, Erin of Chico, Calif.; grandchildren, Tony, Sonny and Lilly Palacios, Jonathan Pacheco, Riley and Emma Alexander and Asher Rice.
