Philipsburg, Canada This is a small village about 2 miles over the border of Canada and it is nestled along Missisquoi Bay. The village is about 2miles long with 3 streets back from the shore. There is a store and post office and a stone jetty running from shore. There is a shrine in the center area and a short distance away is a block house that has been preserved from the early period of the 1800's. There is French cemetery at the end of the town. A resident related that he worked with a Rivers family member in the rock quarry when he was young back in the 1940's and remembers a Lariviere that he worked with as a boy who netted fish for a living. In 1997 there were families of Brooks, Rivers and Lariviere still living there or related to them. The homes are from 1900 period and earlier with 1950 style homes in the back streets. This is a restful surrounding to visit and must have been great to live in growing up. This was the railhead of the VT-Canadian RR and was a gateway to the USA and ST Albans, VT. There is an English cemetery in the area that is on the other side of the highway 7 in the hillside area and my be another part of the old village that I did not explore. Earl Dugan1997
