Ferrisburg, VT
This is a small community with an old town hall and a church. There is a historic meeting building that is nearby. The width of the town on rt 7 was 2 miles. Driving down a side street I saw several farms all well kept. Few homes are in the center area. The records at the city hall do not have female births until after 1857 when the state required all towns to maintain full records. Mary Ellen was Born here in 1856 and must have lived on a farm.
Mary Ellen Brooks was Born Feburary 1856 in Ferrisburg, VT. Fathers Name Joseph Brooks and mothers name is Louise Catarett both of Canada.
Family oral history Mary had a child name (Andrew?)Christopher Wright 1871-1878 period, husband name Wright. He was a sailor who later died at sea. Matilda Rivers report to Gladys Keens her daughter, that her Grandmother Brooks was a Native American Indian from Canada. The daughters walked three miles to cross the Canadan border when they were youngsters for the adventure of doing it. Philipsburg Can. is six miles from Highgate Springs. Matilida report to Gladys her daughter.

Facts Mary Ellen Brooks Rivers died Sept 12, 1904 at 49 yrs. of age and is buried in the Forestdale cemetary, Cabot St., in plot # 558 (second road from the left to the end and out to the street area) with Milo Proper who died October 4, 1904 - Lena�s son. Tombstone reads Mary Ellen Brooks Wife of George Larriviere died Sept. 20, 1904 age 49 years old. Milo Proper Died October 4, 1904. age 8 months,
( Stone is in poor condition) undertaker J O'Donnel. Daughters later on had tomestone recut to read Larriviere and added an angel at the top of the stone. This is only one of the ways they expressed their love of their mother.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Rivers, Wife of George Rivers, Died at her home, 5 Mechanics Street after a short illness. Besids her husband Mrs. Rivers is survived by six daughters and one son. The funeral will be held from 5 Mechanics street tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Forestdale cemetary.
