Note: Simcoe Reformer, 1904 The Late Samuel B. Earle The funeral of the late Samuel B. earle took place on Monday afternoon, August 15th, from the residence of James Dowswell, Glenshee to Salem Cemetery. Rev. J.G. Foote, Methodist Minisster of Salem officiated. Deceased had been afflicted nearly 12 years and during that time had several strokes of paralysis, but his sufferings were born with great patience and he was cheerful until the last, only taking to his bed one day before his death. He was born in 1823 on the old Earle homestead near Blaney Post Office, and there spent his youngest days. In 1844 he married Catherine Wilson and settled about one mile north of his old home, and there he lived until his partner in life died a little over three years ago. Since that time he has been living with his children. He leaves four sons and two daughters to mourn his loss. Mr Earl had been connected with Salem Church ever since his youth. The spot of land on which the church now stands and also the cemetery were procured through the influence of the deceased, and the starting of the first church accomplished through his efforts. He was an active member and faithful church goer as long a he was able to attend. He was class leader of the Salem Church and superintendent of the Sabbath School for many years, and as long as he lived took a deep interest in the welfare of the church and towards the last he prayed that he might live until the new church was finished. He lived a good, long life and he died happy. A few days before his death he sang that old familiar hymn: Amen, Amen, my soul replies, I'm bound to meet you in the skies, And claim my mansion there. Ah, here's my heart and here's my hand, To meet you in that better land, Where we shall part no more. The relatives and mourning friends have the deepest sympathy of the community.
