Note: Lewis N. Conklin traveled with his parents from Jackson Co. IA in 1887 to a farm nr. Gayville, Clay Co. SD. In 1888 they moved to Stockville, Frontier Co. NE, but returned to Gayville in 1894. Shortly after his father's death, the Conklin and McElwain families moved to Garrison, ND (1905) Lewis and Nettie lived on a farm nr. Garrison and never again moved from the vacinity..

L.N. Conklin, Garrison, Dies, farmer of Garrison and former McLean county died at 4:?? Wednesday in a Minot hospital to which he had been admitted last Friday. The prominent McLean pioneer had been ill for several months after having a stroke. Funeral services will be hold Saturday at the Congregional Church with the Rev. E.W. Frisbie, pastor of the Methodist Escop. Church. of Washburn, officiating. Burial will be in the Garrison cemetery. The body was to be taken from the Thomas Funeral Chapel in Minot to the funeral home in Garrison today. Mr. Conklin had served as county commission for eight years. He had completed his second term last Jan. Residence of Platt township, he has held several offices there. He was born 25 Sept 1872, in Iowa and as a young man lived in Nebraska. Later he worked in several western states before coming to N.D. about 35 years old. He was married to Mrs. Nettie Segard McElwain in Garrison in 1907. Surviving are the widow, four son, Ervin, John, Vincent and Allen all of Garrison vicinity, a stepson, Melvin McElwain of Clinton, CT, a stepdaughter, Mrs. F.F. Kaufman of Orland, CA, and seven brothers P.J. Conklin, of Rapid City, SD, T.J. Conklin of Detriot, MI, W.J. Conklin of Baker, ID., F.J. Conklin, of of LsSalle, CO. R.F.Conklin, of Keystone, S.D., and S.C. Conklin and F.J. Conklin, both of Garrison, and three sisters: Mrs. E.J. McElwain of Mullen, ID, Mrs. J.E. Coby, of Berkley, CA, and Mrs. Ernest Miller of Emmet, S.D.
