  William James Conklin, was known as "Chunky." In 1887, traveled westward with his parents from Jackson Co. IA to a farm nr. Gayville, SD. In 1888 they moved into nr. Stockville, Frontier Co. NE. His parents returned to Gayville in 1894. "Chunky" and his wife, "Tillie" Matilda Conklin farmed nr. Stockville until 1907, when they moved to a farm nr. Scenic, S After five years in Scenic, the family moved to Garrison, ND. in 1912. They returned to Scenic in 1915. In 1923, they left Scenic for Salt Creek, WY. After 3 years at Salt Creek, one year was spent at Yakima, Yakima Co. WA. In 1927, they moved to Hardin, Big Horn Co. MT. After eight years, in Hardin, they moved to Salmon, ID. in 1935. Here is where they enjoyed the rest of their natural lives.
  Idaho Recorder Salmon, Idaho Jan. 17, 1945 - The Passing of William Conklin, Graveside Service Here Thursday Afternoon - Graveside services will be held at the Salmon Cem., Thursday afternoon, Jan. 18, at 2 o'clock, for the late William J. Conklin. Mr. Conklin passed away in Spokane on Jan. 12 and funeral services were held in that city. Rev. Don Ian Smith, pastor of the federated church of Salmon will conduct the graveside service. Arrangements are under the direction of Ray McGoldrick. Mr. Conklin, a resident of Lemhi Co. for the last ten years, is well known in this community. He is survived by four sons. Loyal Conklin of Leadore; William of Tendoy, Adrian of Spokane and Leslie of Baker, ID., two daus, Mrs. Gladys Ferguson of Sheridan, WY; Mrs. Dorothy Barrett of Spokane; four brothers, F.J. Conklin of Evans, Colorado; R.T. Conklin of Keystone, S.D.; F.J. and M.C. Conklin, both of Garrison, N.D.; three sisters, Mrs. E.J. McElwain of Mullan, ID; Mrs. Mary Colby of Berkely, Calif.; Mrs. Marie Miller of Garrison, N.D. Conklin dies at Spokane, WA. Willam J. Conklin, 83 years old, passed away at Spokane, WA, 12 Jan. 1945. Born in Jackson Co., IA in 1862. He farmed in the Garrison vicinity with his family in 1914-15. He was loved and respected by all that knew him. Survived by four sons, two daus., several brothers and sisters. His wife preceded him in death in 1939. William J. Conklin is the brother of Mrs. Erne Miller and Mike and Fred Conklin of Emmet.
