"Jefferson and Louisa, along with Jefferson's parents and several of his brothers, migrated west about 1843, arriving in Jackson Co. prior to the fall of 1844. The nine younger children were born in Jackson Co. Iowa, beginning with Peter M. in Oct. 1844, John Joseph "Jo John," James Henry, Eli "Dick" William Conklin, Elijah, Jefferson, Phillip Freeman, Daniel and the youngest children, Mariah's only sister, Mary Jane, b. in Mar. 1862 Jefferson's purchase of 40 acres of U.S. Government land in Sect. Six of Farmers Creek Twp. was recorded on 30 Mar. 1849. The family remained in Jackson Co. until sometime in the mid 1870's when Jefferson and Louisa, along with their son, Daniel, headed west for Osborne Co. KS. The earliest record found for Jefferson in Osborne Co. is the appearance of his name on the Personal Tax List for Jackson Twpshp in 1879. Louisa died there 15 Apr. 1879, and is buried about five miles east of where they lived. This we learned from a letter written to Uncle Fritz by Jack Wallace in 1945. Jack put a three foot stone on her grave in 15 Apr. 1889, however the exact location of her grave has not been found. Mariah Edwards cousin, James Sylvester Edwards owned two lots in the Cheyenne Cemetery, just south of the old Cheyenne Post Office. Two of his children are buried there. The location of the Cheyenne Cemetery doesn't fit Jack's description. Jack indicated the cemetery was a stone's throw North of the Post Office. There is a Shaw Cem. north and east of the Old Post Office, slightly more than a stone's throw away. Designated an historical site, the description fits Jack's accounting. Daniel and Jeff remained in Osborne County into 1880. Jefferson returned to Iowa. By this time several of his children had found new homes near Correctionville in Woodbury County on the western edge of Iowa. He purchased land near Correctionville in Sect. 10 on 14 Sept. 1880. Jefferson died there 3 Feb. 1895."
