Notes
a. Note:   rea of Elkton, in Rockingham County Va. It was there that their first daughter, Hettie, was born. Shortly after Hettie's birth, they moved to another house in the Mt. Pleasant area, about a mile from the first one. While living there, their next two children, Eula & Jesse were born. Some time after this, they moved in with George's brother, Jake, & his family, & later bought the place. This is where Roy & Bernard were born. They continued living here until 18 March 1918, at which time they moved across the mountain to Albemarle County, in the White Hall area. Their first home in Albemarle Co. belonged to George's brother, Hiram. They lived there for a year and a half, during which time Avis was born. In October, 1919, they moved to what was known as the Jean Tarry place, where they lived for two years. On 7 Oct 1921, they moved to the Curtis Ballard place, & less than four months later, on Jan 20 1922, they moved to the Wood's & Robert's place. From there, on 18 Dec 1922, they moved to the Henna White place. It was there that Lonnie was born. Then, on 19 Nov 1923, they moved to Leander Sandridge's place on the mountain. It was here that their last child, Emma, was born. On 14 Nov 1929, they bought the Sam Carr property, better known as the "Doc Place", and moved there on 9 Dec that same year. This is where they spent the remainder of their lives. For many years, George's health was poor, making it difficult for him to provide a living for his family. Virgie helped him all she could on the farm, & hired out in the local fruit orchards to provide a little extra income. As their sons became of age, they took jobs & helped lighten the family's financial burdens. In late spring of 1949, Virgie came down with pneumonia, and on 30 May, she passed into eternity. After her death, Bernard bought the farm, and since he wasn't married at the time, Emma and her family moved in to do the housekeeping. After Bernard's marriage in 1953, Emma's family continued living there for another year or two, then moved to Stafford County. George remained at the home place with Bernard & his family, & lived with them the rest of his life. During his latter years, his health improved, & he helped Bernard on the farm., & kept a big garden every summer. He was a hard worker, and had a desire and willingness to help in any way he could. On 27 Apr 1973, he passed away at the age of 92.
