Notes
a. Note:   FOUND DYING BY HER SON Sudden Death of Mrs. Michael Mooney of 135 State Street Heart Disease CauseSon's First Intimation of Mother's Condition Was When He Called Her. Mrs. Michael Mooney of 135 State street was found in a dying condition this morning at 7 o'clock by her son, William Mooney, who immediately ran to the home of Mrs. Arthur Steffen and asked Mrs. Steffen to come to his assistance. A few minutes after her arrival Mrs. Mooney died. Heart disease is assigned as the cause of her demise. The announcement of the death was a great shock to the children of Mrs. Mooney. A physician was hastily summoned but arrived too late. This morning William Mooney said that his mother retired last night feeling in her usual health, and when he went to her bedroom this morning to call her he received the first intimation that her ailment was serious. For some time Mrs. Mooney has been ailing, but she had been able to be around the house and had been able to visit other homes in the neighborhood; hence her sudden death was a great blow to the members of the family. Mrs. Mooney was a native of the county Derry, Ireland, where she was born sixty-eight years ago. She received her early education in Ireland, and came to America shortly before the civil war. Mrs. Mooney's maiden name was Miss Isabelle McLain, and she was united in marriage to Michael Mooney in February, 1861. They resided upon a farm in Harlem township until about ten years ago, when they disposed of their valuable farm, and moved to this city to reside. Mr. Mooney died shortly after moving to Freeport. Mrs. Mooney was prominently identified with the religious and social activities of St. Mary's Catholic church and enjoyed the friendship of a host of friends, who admired her for her many noble qualities. She was a member of the Married Ladies' society. Decedent is survived by the following children: James, Patrick, William and Mrs. Edward Brown, all of Freeport, and Michael of Kiona, Wash. Robert McLain of Eleroy is a brother. An Inquest Held. Coroner Baumgartner held an inquest over the remains this morning, and the result of the investigations of the jury was that Mrs. Mooney came to her death from natural causes, the testimony of Dr. K. F. Snyder lending the inference that death was caused by angina pectoris. William Mooney, a son of the deceased, testified to finding his mother's body this morning and about calling Mrs. Steffen and Rev. Father Hogan, who agreed that Mrs. Mooney had expired, and advised the calling of the coroner. Dr. Snyder testified that decedent had been dead at least four hours before he arrived. Mrs. Steffen corroborated the testimony given by the son. The Funeral The funeral will be held next Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from the family residence and at 9:30 o'clock from St. Mary's church. Rev. Father Leydon will officiate.
