Note: EDWARD W. BROWN, POLICEMAN, DEADOfficer Succumbs On Christmas Eve, After Being Ill Several Months Edward William Brown, a member of the police force for 12 years and a native of Stephenson county, passed away at his home, 197 Winneshiek street, at 7:30 o'clock on Christmas eve., following protracted illness. Mr. Brown's death was due to kidney trouble and a complication of diseases. He had been ailing for the past several months. He had been confined to a hospital from September 15th to October 15th but recovered and had returned to his duties as desk sergeant at police headquarters. He continued working for about three weeks, when he was again taken ill. During his entire lifetime Mr. Brown has been a resident of Stephenson county and he had hundreds of friends who will be deeply grieved to learn of his passing. As a police officer he was faithful and efficient. Edward William Brown was born at New Dublin, Stephenson county, May 13th, 1863. He resided at Pearl City for several years and moved to this city about seventeen years ago. He was employed at the Illinois Central shops for several years and later entered the employ of the city as a patrolman. He had served continuously for the last five years as a member of the police force. He was married September 29th, 1891, to Miss Mary Mooney. His wife and the following children survive; Mrs. Isabelle Beck, residing near Polo; Mrs. Olive Bornemeier, residing near Shannon; Edward, Loretta, Marguerite, Daniel, Frances, Robert , and Hugh Brown, all at home. The following brothers and sisters also survive; Daniel Brown, Ft. Lupton, Colorado; Mrs. Isabelle Foley, Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Catherine Malone, Freeport, and Mrs. Sarah Milan, Rockford. Mr. Brown was a member of St. Mary's church and also a member of Freeport Council Knights of Columbus. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning from the late home, 197 Winneshiek street, and half an hour later from St. Mary's church. Rev. Father T. F. Leydon will conduct the services and burial will be made in St. Mary's cemetery. The Knights of Columbus will attend the funeral in a body.
