Note: Christened on 02/26/1763 in Berks Co., PA, Christ Lutheran, Tulpehocken. Leonard, who usually had his last name spelled with a "K" on front, moved to Kentucky about 1793 or 1794 (probably close to the time his son, Michael, was born). He seemed to move back and forth between the Boonesborough area of Madison Co. and the Nicholasville area of Jessamine Co.. According to Maurine Schmitz, he had 12 acres of farmland in Madison Co.. She says in the "Madison Co., KY Deed Bk.F", p.336, that Leonard sold livestock and household items to a John Nave of the same county (his son?). The text of the document is in her book. She also said in a book called "Potts Family Records", that it said Leonard had light hair and blue eyes, and his religion was "nominal". He also was buried "near Nicholasville". Some of this is recorded in an old newspaper clipping that is still at my grandmother's house. I think, but not sure, that the newspaper was the "Brookville Star" in Brookville, OH, in either Darke or Montgomery County. (Montgomery County is where Dayton is, and Darke County is to the west of it). Some of it is in "A Genealogical Index of Miami Valley Pioneers, Ohio" on page 129. Also 2 books published by W.H. Beers mentioned Leonard in articles about 2 of his grandsons. More about those books under Joseph Neff. He shared in the dangers and trials with the Indians and the war of 1812. It is also said that he fought with Daniel Boone. Occupation blacksmith 2nd wife Betsy Bowling 26 Dec 1823 Heidelbery twp. Berks co.
