"To son James DAVIS-the place below me over the creek lying inMadison Co. that I bought of Green CLAY together with 50 acres bought ofCRAGG. Also my rifle gun. "And whereas I have in time past given my son Sanuel DAVIS a mareand colt, also my daughter Mary WHEELER a mare, I hereby disallow themfrom being accountable for the said hereafter. "My sons Samuel, William & James DAVIS to maintain my wife RachelDAVIS during her wife (life?) as widow. She can rent out some land. "I bequeath her (wife) bed & household furniture--at her death, thesame to be equally divided amongst my children. "Also should I decease before my three youngest children, William,James, and Eleanor have sufficient education-$70 to be appropriated byexecutor for their education. "Whereas my daughter Mary WHEELER has been (or seen) a deal oftrouble and care with a negro women of mine named Hannah who ispregnant; therefore for her trouble and care I will and bequeath thechild she is with to my daughter. And should said child die immediatelyor not be born, I allow her a reasonable charge out ofmy estate to bepaid by executors. (No marriage of Maryor Polly DAVIS to Mr. ANDERSON in Garrard or Madison Co.) Comments: Forrest Calico-frame 001089: "John DAVIS, Sr., father of John DAVIS, Jr. who married Rachel WEST 1788Mad. Co., KY in 1785 left a special Legacy to William DAVIS, a minorin 1816 son of John Jr. Paid John D. AUSTIN trustee for same.Allowances made for board and washing in 1818-1819. This William wasprobably the father of Willard DAVIS, an atty about 1850. EleanorDAVIS who md Claiborn TEATER also had a special Legacy from John DAVISSr." (John DAVIS Jr. did NOT marry Rachel WEST--it was another John DAVISthat moved with his family and the WESTS to Missouri.)
