Note: Tom's weight at birth was 8 1/2 lbs & he had brown eyes. He was baptized by Rev. COX, at Mt. Hope Church. The schools he attended were (1) Millpoint School (1-room schoolhouse) Fall 1918, (2) Spring St. School (grades 1 - 4), (3) Charles B. Aycock School (grades 5 - 8B), (4) Greensboro High School. (now Grimsley, through his junior year). Some of the places he worked were Sunnit Sodie Shop (Greensboro NC) 07/1948 & Jamestown Cabinet Shop (Jamestown NC) in 12/1949. His occupation was woodworker & owner of Old Guilford Workshop. He is buried at New Garden Friends Cemetery, 901-A New Garden Rd., Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC, plot D-9. Tom served in the military: (1) NC National Guard, Battery D, 252 Regt., Coast Artillery Co., Greensboro, NC, enlisted 01/16/1933, age about 20, encampment at Ft. Moultry SC, occupation at that time was a clerk, Honorable Discharge 01/15/1936 & (2) US Army Air Corps, entered 11/04/1942, stationed at Waller Trainer Center, Ft. Myers, FL & 2136th AF Basic Unit, Laredo Army Air Field, Laredo TX (21 Oct 1945), Honorable Discharge 12/03/1945 at Seymour Johnson Field, NC, grade - Cpl., serial # 14-180-885. His military occupational assignments were, (a) 1 month, Pvt., Basic Training, (b) 5 months, Pvt., Airplane Mechanic, (c) 3 months, Pvt., Projectionist, Motion Picture, (d) 26 months, Cpl., Synthetic Trainer Mechanic (made all maintenance, mechanical, & minor electrical repairs on complicated picture projector & also operated motion picture projector. He is credited with organizing a reunion for his comrades in service in 1967 & gathered every 2 years with his group. As a youth he attended the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. He joined Spring Garden Meeting after his 2nd marriage & was an Elder there at the time Battle Forest Meeting was begun, when he changed his membership. He made the altars & podium for the church & was an Elder there at his death. Tom was a Charter Member of Sedgefield Lions Club (1961), served on Board of Directors, Bulletin Editor, Program Chairman, Membership Chairman, Lion Tamer, Tail Twister, Vice-President, President, & voted Lion of the Year for Sedgefield Club twice. He dropped out in 1981 after serving 20 yrs. (19 with perfect attendance & 1 on Membership at Large). He was also a member of The American Legion. His height was 6 ft (in 1986). Tom helped to organize the annual NEESE Family Reunion in Guilford Co. NC & served as President 1971-72. His favorite hobby & form of relaxation was gardening, both vegetables & flowers.
