Notes
a. Note:   He was attending Graham Academy, Marshallberg, Carteret Co., NC, between 09/01/1891 & 05/01/1892, in Higher English, & was listed as "Bennie P. WAY, Marshallberg, NC." ("Kith & Kin" of Eastern Carteret Co., p. 181). One of the big mysteries of this family seems to be what the "P." in Benjamin P. WAY's name was for. Several different relatives stated that they knew what it was for, but all of them stated a different name. It was obviously a name that he did not like, since even his wife did not know what it was! None of the records checked at this time have mentioned it. Bennie's occupations were: (a) WAY Nash Co., Morehead City (NC), (b) VP & Manager of Morehead City Seafood Co., Inc., c. 1915, (c) VP of a bank in Morehead City prior to the great depression of the late 1930's, (d) PARKS Seafood Market, Portsmouth (VA), c. 1939-1941, (e) owner of WAY Seafood Market, 800 Middle St., Portsmouth (VA) 1941 - 01/1962. He and his wife moved to Morehead City early in 1913 and owned a home on the SE corner of Bridges & 7th St., and to Portsmouth VA in 1939. He was mentioned in the wills of his aunt & uncle, Mary Thomas DAVIS & Reuben W. DAVIS, of Carteret Co., NC. His great love was anything concerning boats and fishing. He died at the Golden Age Nursing Home, Lexington, Davidson, NC, at 10:30 a.m. His funeral was 07/01/1971, Portsmouth, VA, 2 P.M., by Rev. R.A. CRAIG, retired pastor of Central Methodist Church.
