a. Note:   In 1292 John was appointed as King of Scotland by King Edward I of England Interregnum, ruled by regents 1296-1306. In 1296 King Edward I of England, invaded Scotland to crush Balliol rebellion so began the 30 year War-after defeat at Dunbar Balliol resigned, left for exile in England.
