a. Note:   Martha was affectionately called "Polly." According to the Benson Book, Martha was born in Easton, Washington County (formerly Albany County), New York. This was figured out due to where the Benson's lived at the time when she was born. Martha was affectionately called "Polly." Her father, Daniel Benson had moved the family there to Easton in the early 1770's. They were following her grandfather who was one of the first settlers there. The family was still there in 1790 according to that years U.S. Census. In 1798 Daniel moved his family to Fabius, Onondaga County, New York. They are shown there in the 1800 census. Both of Martha Benson's grandfathers were in the Revolutionary War and her father was a Major in the War of 1812.
