a. Note:   Thomas Malcolm was in the Civil War, 7th Michigan Infantry, Company "C" . He joined up in Monroe, Michigan on August 22, 1861. He fought in the Battle of Balls Bluff. Thomas became unfit for duty due to heart problems and was discharged on November 1, 1861. He died due to strangulated hernia about 8 years later in 1869.
  According to his Certificate of Disability for Discharge paper, he he was "five feet, five and one-quarter inches tall, had a light complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair." He was a farmer at the time he enlisted.
  After Thomas Malcolm's death his wife Mary remarried on November 14, 1871 to Abram Harper at Bridgewater, Northwest Twp., Williams County, Ohio.
  Thomas Malcolm is listed in the 1860 census for Northwest Township, Williams Co., Ohio. His neighbor is his father-in-law George Heckenlively. Neither of these families are listed in the 1860 Ohio census index. Nevertheless, they are in the census. Thomas is family #195 and George is #193.
