Note: Daniel Benson's Father served in the Revolutionary War. Daniel may have been born in the town of Amenia in Dutchess County as his sister Judith was born there. His sister Lusina and brother Edward were probably born in Amenia as well. There were also many other Benson's in Amenia. The rest of his siblings were born in Easton, Washington County, New York. In the early 1770's, Daniel Benson moved with his family to Easton, Washington Co. (formerly Albany County). His father was one of the first settlers there. The family was still there in 1790 according to that years U.S. Census. In 1798 Daniel moved his family to Fabius, NY. They are shown there in the 1800 census. In 1801 Daniel was appointed ensign in the 3rd company of the 4th regiment of Onondaga County. In 1803 he was a Lieut. and in 1804 he was promoted to captain. In 1807 he was made 2nd major of a newly formed unit. He was a major in the war of 1812 and his son Elias Benson was a drummer boy in that war. Daniel Benson later moved his family to Lincoln Township in Morrow Co., Ohio where they were later joined by others of the family, including his daughter Martha and her husband Jacob Knapp and family. In his declining years he was cared for by his daughter Martha Knapp. He died in 1848 near Cardington, Ohio and was buried in a cemetery on his own farm.
