Notes
a. Note:   About 6:00 p.m., May 30,1917 a devastating tornado destroyed the town of Dongola, coming from the west, taking a number of lives and injuring quite a number of people in the town. Margaret Jane Killian, her daughter, Adeline Crites, and granddaughter, Dora Crites, lived in a large two story house two and one half miles west of Dongola. About 6 p.m. the storm struck with all its fury, and left no buildings on their farm. The storm which took the life of Mrs. Killian also destroyed livestock and chickens. Her body was discovered next day by a neighbor, Joe Myers, who worked on the farm of a neighbor, Milo Travelstead. The farm home and all buildings on the George W. Bidewell farm were destroyed, seriously injuring his wife, Jane, and a girl, Sarah Newell, who lived with them as hired help. Len, their small son, also received injuries. Mrs. Bidewell's brother, Henry Crites, and his family, lived in the old Killian schoolhouse and were not injured but the house was badly damaged.
