Note: Mr. and Mrs. J. J. East Jr. of Cape Girardeau celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug . 2, 1997. An anniversary mass was celebrated by the Rev. Rick Valleroy of St. Louis at St. Vincent's C atholic Church. The mass was followed by a dinner and reception in the parish center, hosted by their childr en. Out-of-state guests attended from Florida, Kansas, Arkansas, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. East and Dorothy Sue Ladd were married July 31, 1947, at St. Mary's Cathedral. The couple's children and spouses are: Mary and Keith Boeller, Karen and Brad Altenthal, Ric hard East, John and Dotte East, all of Cape Girardeau; Stephen and Becky East of St Charles ; David and Gayla East of Jackson, Tenn.; Barbara and Kevin Glueck of Kelso; Roger and Pam Ea st of Paducah, Kentucky; and Bill and Judy East of Avon Lake, Ohio. The Easts have 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.--The Southeast Missourian, Cap e Girardeau, Missouri, Aug. 9, 1997 John Jefferson East Jr., 77, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at his home. He was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Murphysboro, Illinois, son of John Jefferson Sr. and Aurelia Young East. He and Dorothy S. Ladd were married July 31, 1947, at Cape Girardeau. East retired in 1992 from Elfrink Truck Lines, having worked in sales and claims for 25 years. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Elks Lodge 639. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving with the Navy Seabees on Guam and Midway. Survivors include his wife; five sons, William "Bill" East of Cleveland, Ohio, John J. and Rick East, both of Cape Girardeau, David East of Jackson, Tenn., Stephen East of St. Charles, Missouri; three daughters, Barbara Glueck of Kelso, Missouri, Karen Altenthal and Mary Boeller, both of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Bill East of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Betty June Dougan of Cumberland, Md.; an aunt, Viola Klinkman of Mascoutah, Illinois; 26 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Roger East; a brother, Charles East; and his parents. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m., and Elks services will be at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Revs. Rickey Valleroy and Derek Swanson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery at Cape Girardeau, with military rites by VFW Post 3838 and the Missouri Honor Guard.
