Note: Berry B. Whitson was born in Jackson co., Illinois on 4 Feb 1816 on afarm two miles from whe re he resided in 1878. He was the 3rd child of afamily of 11 children of Thomas and Sophia W hitson. When he was a boy hebecame active in field sports and hunting. In 1836 he married Miss Eulila Gaston, daughter of William Gaston.They had a family of n ine children, four were still living in 1878. The children were, in order of birth: Joseph D. Whitson, married andlived on part of th e old homestead; Laurena, widow of Daniel Worthen,resided at Sand Ridge; Amanda C., wife of S amuel Moore, lived nearMurphysboro and Simon who in 1878 was still single and living in Texas . Eulila died Mar 29, 1853 at home. On 7 Mar 1863 Berry married Mrs.Eliza Smith.
