  "Thomas Worthen (or Wathen) b. in Gloucestershire, England. Enlisted under Lord Cornwallis; was at the capture of Charleston and there made a prisoner; learned shoemaking in prison and came from New York to Shelburne with the Loyalists, afterwards worked with Josiah Harding."

  " Thomas Worthen was born in Gloucester, England. He enlisted under Lord Charles Cornwallis, British General. He was at the capture of Charleston, South Carolina, it was the Battle of Carolina in the American Revolution, May 12, 1780. He was made a prisoner there and while in prison he learned the shoemaking trade (cobbler).
  He was exchanged and came from New York to Shelburne with the Loyalists. At first he settled in Barrington River, later he lived at Bunker Hill near West Brook, which was the west side of Barrington.
  He came with 7000 Loyalists April 26, 1783. He worked with Josiah Harding who had a tannery and boat making business. he married Ann Laskey, daughter of William Laskey".
