a. Note:   Daniel is supposed to be a distant cousin of Daniel " the liberator" O'connell. I have not proven or disproven this yet. His grandmother (name unknown), mother of william, is rumored to have "cared for the liberators children". Daniel became an Elk when he was 105. He was the oldest Elk in the world. He was a member of the Owosso Elks lodge. He was initiated into the Elks on April 27, 1910.
  I found a passenger list for the ship "john stuart". Listed is an Oconnell (no first name) age 30. Arrived Oct. 7, 1852. Daniel claims he arrived in the US on the ship "John Stuart" in 1851. Im not sure this Oconnell is Daniel Oconnell, but I am assuming it is as I cant find any other Oconnells arriving on the John Stuart during any other years.
  Ancestry.com has a listing for Daniel O'connell of Deerfield, Michigan enlisting in the Military on January 18, 1862 at the age of 50. If this is correct it would put Daniels birthdate as 1812. He was with Company F, 15th Infantry Regiment Michigan.
