"Bob" Adey, 73 a retired Easton barber died yesterday in St. Petersburg, Fla. Mr. Adey operated a barber shop at 1023 Washington St. for many years. Born in Hazleton, he attended Millersville State Teachers College before serving a few years with the Army during World War I. When he was discharged he moved to Allentown with the idea of enrolling at Muhlenberg to earn a high school teacher's certificate. Instead he bought the shop in Easton and moved into it. For many years he was an aide in the accident ward at Easton Hospital. He received the Benjamin Rush Award by the Northampton County Medical Society in 1952 for making an outstanding lay contribution to medicine. In 1955 the Easton Exchange Club honored him with the Golden Deeds Award for community service. During World War II he organized one of the first volunteer emergency units in the nation at the hospital. An ardent swimmer, he swam at least once a day in the Delaware River at Eddyside from April thru September. He was a former elder of Olivet Presbyterian Church and was superintendent of its Sunday school for 25 years. Surving is his widow, the former Elizabeth Chubb. Services and interment will be held in the spring in Easton.
