Note: from Rootsweb forum: Liane, found this reference to Elizabeth Pearson Townsend that seems to indicate that Elizabeth returned to S.C because her family of origin was from that area: http://members.aol.com/unionscgen/homepage/que_stuv.htm DATE: 3/5/1997 RESEARCHER: Jo Carolyn Beebe TOWNSEND In 1780 Francinah TOWNSEND was b in SC. I am searching for her parents. She m Josiah PRATHER b 1770. They lived in Laurens Co. before Josiah died. Francinah moved to Tippah County MS with most of her adult children. Josiah may have been married to Tabitha PEARSON first. Enock PEARSON and Tabitha JACOCKS PEARSON of Union Co had a dgt Tabitha. Tabitha JACOCKS PEARSON m John TOWNSEND after Enock died. John had been married to Enock's sister, Elizabeth. The Pearsons and some Townsends are buried in the Pearson Cemetery in Union Co. I'm trying to make a connection between Francinah and these Townsends. ************************** Private Email There were two Pearsons: Edward and Thomas who were brothers. Thomas came on the Welcome with Richard Townsend, Edward came several years later. There is a nice looking internet family tree for Edward. He lived in Bucks County, PA. He had several children including Enoch who died in Bucks County in 1722. Enoch's son Enoch b 1718 md Tabitha Jacocks in 1751. She was from NJ. Enoch also had a sister Elizabeth Pearson b 1726 who could well be the wom an who md John Townsend. All of their children were supposedly born in Chester, PA. Enoch's will wa s written in April 1775 and it gives his occupation as surveyor. He evidentl y died in SC about 1780. One of the witnesses to his will was a John Townsend. Another was Elizabeth Townsend. There is a conflict if his will was written in SC in April 1775 and his son was born in October 1775 in PA . But his will certainly describes him as of the Ninety six district (SC). This certainly opens up the possibility that John Townsend (husband of Elizabeth Pearson) was still alive in 1775 if that is who witnessed the will. It equally could be the his son who would have been perhaps 18 or older.
