I just spent a f ew days with Margaret Green who has researched this family for many year s. I am becoming more convinced that the William Brown and Leonard Brown w ho received their land grants in 1779 (adjacent to each other) were brothe rs. I am a descendant of the Leonard Brown line and have them well trace d. Now I am searching for descendants of the William Brown line. After vie wing many Caswell documents, I think that Hudson Brown and James Brown a re sons of William. I know there are daughters as well. I think Willi am V. Brown is of a later generation than the original William Brown. Cou ld he also be a son? Your Frances would be of the right age to be a daught er. Let's talk more. Danene *************** Notes for JESSE HOLLIS: According to the inscription on his tombstone, Jesse Hollis was born in Ro wan County July 16, 1771. His wife Frances was born in Caswell County Ju ne 1, 1777. Jesse Hollis and Frances Brown were married in Caswell Coun ty on Sept. 27, 1798, according to Caswell County marriage bond records. H udson Brown was listed as bondsman, and the bond was witnessed by Alex Mur phy, DC. In 1825, they moved to Gibson County in Southwest Indiana, whe re they lived the rest of their lives. The locally published history, "Gib son County, Indiana," states that they arrived in the company of Hudson Br own. On Nov. 22, 1800, Jesse Hollis purchased 100 acres on Tom's Creek for 1 00 Lbs. On March 24, 1812, he acquired another 300 acres on Tom's or Thom 's Creek for $300. Normally this wouldn't be enough of a connectio n, but it also locates him in Haywood, TN. This is where I have definite ly placed James M. Walker. It's good enough for me. I'm willing to conce de that James M. Walker was the only son of Ashford Walker. Apparently bet ween the years of 1850 and 1860 both James M. and his father Ashford le ft Caswell, NC for the greener grass of central TN. This is not a big surp rise as there is a special relationship between NC and TN owing to the fa ct that the original establishment of NC included much of TN. When TN beca me a state in 1796 a bunch of people who were living in NC suddenly were l iving in East TN. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dansgen/leonchron.h tm (details on an earlier Leonard and William Browns in Caswell and TN)
