Notes
a. Note:   According to LCurrier, Frances was Cherokee, and in 1906 Littleto
Note:   n Brown made an application to Cherokee Indian Claims Office for ancestry through his mother. Post does not indicate if accepted. I could not find listing on Dawes Roll on Ancestry.com.
According to other info I'm finding online, I do not see how Frances was Cherokee. She seems to come from a family from Culpepper, VA that migrated to NC. It is also possible that William V. Brown had another wife, who was mother to Littleton and Eliza.

Lyon in Caswell County was the family of Robert Lyon, who died there in 1804. Once his grandson, Edmond, left North Carolina in the 18teens, I stopped tracing the Lyon's left in Caswell, so I will not be of much help for families in the 1850 Census.
I do know that Noel Lyon was the son of a Revolutionary War veteran, John Lyon. John and his brothers, Jacob and William, were descendants of Alexander Lyon of Culpeper Co, VA. Alexander was the son of William and Elizabeth Lyon of Culpeper. Noel Lyon was born in 1815, married Mary Harp in 1837, and made his living as a cobbler.
I can't place Frances Lyon. She could be a sister of Noel, as they seem to have been born around the same time. Robert Lyon's son, William, had a daughter Frances, but she was born around the turn of the century and married William Brown. The other prominent Lyon family in early Caswell history is that of John Lyon of Amherst County, VA. He died in Caswell Co. in 1784, leaving a detailed will. His son William had a son, William, who married Milley McAlexander in 1802. They had a daughter Frances, born sometime after that.
