NOTE: see new 1900 census info *********** Private Email Littleton Brown in Salisbury (Rowan Co., NC) was married to a Lucinda or Luenda Leopard (now spelled Lippard) in 1838 in Salisbury. He is also in the records as a witness for one or two other marriages. Our Littleton Brown would have been only 12 years old at the time. It is possible that the older Littleton Brown was being married for a second time and that our Littleton was his son. That is just speculation. Our Littleton Brown was married to Rachel (Rachael) Cooper in Union County, S.C., in about 1849, according to records in that county. Union County, S.C., is not all that far from Rowan, NC. We know that our Littleton was born in NC, of course. Mary Ann "Mollie" Brown was born March 16, 1862 in Paulding County, Ga., and died Dec. 6, 1930 in Cordova, Ala. She was married to James Franklin Dupree, who I think was a Baptist minister. Stokely's granddaughter states the Brown family had a mill in New Hope, Ga called "Brown's Mill." According to records of Brown's Mill, ************** Littleton did NOT own the Mill. *********** Littleton fought in Battle of New Hope during Civil War on Littleton's farm near Atlanta, GA. In May 1864 there was a battle fought in this area called the Battle of New Hope Church. It was fought during General Sherman's march to Atlanta. This Battle along with the Battle of Pickett's Mill and Alatoona Pass were all Southern victories. There were, however, a great many casualties on both sides. In this cemetery we find many grave markers with no names or dates - the type used to mark graves of dead soldiers during the Civil War. Brown, Ada Harris 3-14-1883 2-17-1960 W /O James H. Brown, D.
