The informant was LeRoy Stidham. Place of death: Galveston, city of LeMarque, Texas. His address at that time was Houston, TX. His date of death was June 19, 1952. Date of birth was given as March 2, 1895 (the March 2 date different from what was given me by Doug or Carolyn). His father was George R. Holder, born NC; mother: Evelina Daniels, bn MS. He was 'widowed.' The cause of death was "acute myocardial failure." Nothing on the certificate mentioned the auto accident written about in the newspaper article, nor was the leg amputation mentioned. However, an autopsy and inquest were performed. He was buried in Forest Park Cemetery, Houston. ************** Doug DeShields found a copy of a newspaper article relating to the death of Frank Holder, June 20, 1952: Headline reads 'Houston Man Truck Victim at Texas City": "Frank Holder, 57, of Houston, died in Galveston County Memorial Hospital thursday night, five hours after being struck by a truck in the 100 block of Sixth Street in Texas City. Holder was undergoing amputation of a leg when he died and, until the immediate cause of death is known, Texas City police withheld listing the death as a traffic fatality. The city had gone 678 consecutive days without a traffic death. Police had few details on the mishap. The truck driver had not been located. The truck is believed to have backed into Holder." ************************ From a letter written by G DeShields on July 9, 1994: "Jennie is very pretty and Frank is kinda handsome with a big dimple in his chin which he passed on to his daughter, Dorothy. Jennie had brown hair and brown eyes, also in her daughters Frankie and Dot. I got the recessive trait from our Dad -- blond hair and blue eyes. You can see Dot in Frank's face and Frankie and I in Jennie's." From a letter dated February 3, 1998 from C Hilderbran "Your Grandfather, I only remember seeing once. He was short, blue eyed, white headed and sort of appeared out of the blue at our home in Corpus Christi. I was a teenager, probably a freshman in college, I'm not sure. He was always Uncle Frank whom we never saw." From August 12, 1978 letter from Carolyn Hilderbran to Dorothy Jones: "I live 90 miles west of San Antonio on the edge of what is called the hill country . . . ironically this is an area of the state that Granny brought Mother and your father to when she (Granny) married Lon Stidham. When I first moved here 20 years ago, Mother and I visited some of the places she remembered and she told me stories of Uncle Frank driving a wagon team hauling cedar and the week long, rough trip for him over these rough hills to travel to Rocksprings. This now seems almost unreal because it can be driven in 40 min. by car." Some notes from diary of Eva Stokely regarding Frank: 9-18-31"Letter from Jennie telling of Frank being a hero and getting written up in The Houston papers for pulling child from a burning car - " 2-28-34"About ten A.M. got wire from Frank, saying Jenny near death, acute appendicitis. Left at noon and drove 17 hours to Houston." 3-1-34"Found J in bad condition. She was glad to see me and talked the Sweetest I ever heard anyone anytime in my life." 3-2-34"Jennie decidedly worse & delirious. Realized it couldn't be long. She knew me up until shortly before she passed away." 3-3-34"Jennie's funeral @@ 4 pm at Fagle-West Chapel. Dr. Hodges spoke and Mrs. H sang "Abide With Me' - casket and robe pink - lovely flowers. 5-4-34"Dorothy Mae is nine today. She is almost living image of her mother. I sent her a little white purse for her birthday." 5-28-34"Letter from Frank - first in some time - poor fellow is just about to Give up it seems." 6-23-34"Letter from Frank stating he wants relief from the present situation. I surely want to help him." ******************* Texas Deaths: Name: Benjamin Frank Holder Death Date: 19 Jun 1952 Death Place: Lamarque, Galvaston, Texas Gender: Male Race: White Death Age: 57 years 3 months 17 days Estimated Birth Date: Birth Date: 02 Mar 1895 Birthplace: Beaumont, Texas Marital Status: Widowed Spouse's Name: Father's Name: George R.
