"The Easterwoods" Page 25. 11/3/00 Margaret Mitchell records....William's family didn't move to Lowndes Co, MS until after Newt was born (1841). They lived in Lowndes Co. for awhile and then moved to Pontotoc Co., MS and then on to Milam Co., TX in 1865. Descendants of both William (1808) and Robert (1810) helped in the settlement of the state of TX. Quoted from the "Annals of Northwest Alabama" written by Ellit. ....Page 24, Easterwood Book. .."As soon as the [Civil] War was over, the Wm. Easterwood (1808) family left for TX by wagon train (in 1865). They settled on the north bank of Little River, Milam Co, TX, about 8 miles south of Cameron, TX. ...Members of the CSA: Newt and John -- Pontotoc Dragons, Cavalry Div.; Jeff and Henry were members of the Infantry. The father, William (1808) served, but record has not been found. 1/19/01 - note from Phyllis King (pking@peppersnet.com) records middle name as William Carroll Easterwood.
